I didn’t name it that to get attention you guys, this smoothie is seriously super, not to mention my breakfast of choice for the last 6 months, which is saying a lot for a guy who eats a different lunch and dinner practically every day.

Why this smoothie? What’s so special about it?

Let’s be real, it’s special because I’m the one who conjured it into existence!

Ehem… please pardon that spontaneous burst of cockiness.

I love this smoothie so much because it contains every element my body desires as a first meal of the day: no sugar, healthy fats, plant-protein, antioxidants, and a well-rounded kick of caffeine from matcha that will keep you fueled for hours. LITERALLY, HOURS.

Example given: after I drank this smoothie earlier today, I made a fool of myself in front of my roommates dancing around like a bafoon for a solid thirty minutes.

If you’re curious as to why I like to start off my days carb/sugar-free, I can tell you!

Oh, sorry about that suspense. Shameless photo plug, aha.

Any who, starting off the day with fats (not the kind you find hiding in a basket of fish & chips), allows your body to fuel itself without using any glucose or fructose (i.e. sugars) as an energy source. Through using fats and proteins as your energy reservoir for the first half of your day, you will remain focused, clear-headed, and have seemingly limitless amounts of energy. Plus, because this super smoothie is almost entirely raw, it’s super easy on your gut, in turn providing you with energy, instead of executing it all on digestion.

If you wanna see the stats, I got you fam! There’s an impressive 756 calories, 30 grams of protein, 60 grams of fats, and only 31 grams of carbs in this super smoothie. With that kind of nutrition, you will be bursting at the seems with energy until late mid-day or until you decide to eat some potatoes and fuck up that hard work and ketogenic shit your body’s got goin’ on (I plead guilty).

Stats aside, there are few things I’m more passionate about than this smoothie, which is why I am oh-so eager to share it with you – so that you may also start to understand your food as medicine and not just as something to fulfill your tastebuds and post onto Instagram.

With lots and lots of love, please enjoy my all-time favorite smoothie and breakfast recipe.

Super Smoothie

  • Servings: 1 full meal or two light smoothies
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Print

Green. Raw. Creamy. Matcha-y. Avocado-y. Superfood-y. Wow, trend-y.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz (1 1/2 c) organic soy milk*
  • 1/2 large, ripe hass avocado
  • 3 tbs (50 g) cashew butter
  • 1 tbs flax meal
  • 1 tbs chia seeds
  • 1/2 tbs (7 g) virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tsp matcha
  • 20-25 drops liquid stevia*
  • Small pinch of sea salt
  • Large handful of spinach
  • 4 oz (about 1/4 cup) small ice cubes

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in blender and blitz on high until creamy, about two minutes.
  2. Taste for sweetness, adjust to suit your desire.
  3. Pour into a glass (or mason jar if you’re tryna spice up your Insta feed) and enjoy the medicine you have just concocted :)

*Soy milk can be subbed with cashew, almond, hemp, hazelnut, or walnut milk. When purchasing any dairy-free milks, I tend to steer clear of milks that have more than 3 ingredients because they don’t need to have more than whatever it is you’re milking (i.e. almonds), milk, and salt.

*If you are using stevia powder, start with half a teaspoon and add more as desired.
